Aganang cement plant

The Aganang Project is the single most important project held by Sephaku Cement. The primary objective of this cement project is to establish and operate a new clinker and cement production plant utilising the secured limestone deposit situated on the Stiglingspan, Verdwaal and Klein Westerford farms located 7km southwest of Itsoseng and 25km west of Lichtenburg. The Aganang Project will consist of a limestone mine and a cement manufacturing plant. The operations to be conducted on the Aganang Project will include: the mining of the principal raw material (limestone mining); the chemical processing of the raw materials to produce clinker; and the grinding and milling of approximately 50% of the clinker and blending with other components to produce the finished cement product. The mining operation will be confined to a surface operation and entails the removal of a calcrete deposit, which will then be milled and blended to form the basic raw meal feed to the cement manufacturing plant. The expected life of the limestone quarry and the cement project is in excess of 30 years, and is potentially up to 48 years based on the delineated mineral resources and new guaranteed kiln production figures. All new order mining licences required for the project have been obtained.

Aganang is a Setswana name meaning ‘empowering each other’. This project was formerly known as the Itsoseng Project.

Location of the Aganang cement plant

The Aganang Project is located approximately 25km west of the town of Lichtenburg in the North West Province. Access to the property from Lichtenburg is via the tarred R503 to Mmabatho. Sephaku Cement's engineering contractors have planned to construct a new access road to the plant site prior to the start of construction. Infrastructure in the Aganang Project area is well established as a result of the neighbouring cement manufacturing plants. The area is serviced with tarred roads and railway lines throughout the region.
